Trailers have come a long way from being mere slabs with wheels used to transport vehicles and cargo, even snowmobiles. An enclosed snowmobile trailer is now available that features steel and aluminum construction, meaning that it can be light weight and virtually rust free, has a V shaped nose and is completely covered. These fully covered trailers are useful in storing your snowmobile during the seven to nine months it is not in use and keep your precious cargo well protected from the elements. But you have to be aware that storing a sled in enclosed snowmobile trailer in hot climate during the summer will cause more heat damage than when the sled is left outdoors. This is a call you need to make based on where you live and what your options are.
Back in the mid- to late-sixties when snowmobiles first became popular, there were over 100 manufacturers of these products. Now, of course, there are only a select few that fabricate these snow vehicles. These vehicles were quite car-like and comfortable, many of them highly ingenious in their ability to tread snow. One such company was Leisure Vehicles Incorporated or LVI, which was founded by former racecar designer Bob Bracey. Amongst the resulting products were the two track Raider snowmobiles, which also featured a single cylinder JLO 24 hp two cycle engine. The Raiders also had a rear-mounted power plant.
